In the Netherlands, we conducted two focus group discussions with students from Maastricht University to explore their preferences to share a work-study space, a kitchen, a workshop space, a tool box and a cargo bike with their neighbors.

Key concerns included booking flexibility, privacy, and management of the area, with natural light and green views being important.
Shared Kitchen and Dining: All participants could imagine using a shared kitchen-dining space, though only 11% were willing to pay extra. Cleanliness, maintenance, and social compatibility were crucial. any preferred the inclusion of these spaces in the rent and emphasized the benefits of having adjacent indoor-outdoor areas for social gatherings.
Shared Workshop Space: Only 22% showed interest in a shared workshop space, considering it more suitable for later life stages or specific hobbies. The communal aspect was appealing, but concerns included noise pollution and underutilization.
Shared Tool and Appliance Box: Most respondents were open to using a shared tool and appliance box, favoring a pay-per-use model. They valued high-quality tools and trust-based access, and suggested maintenance by a landlord or company.
Shared Cargo Bike: About 44% saw potential in using a shared cargo bike for moving large items or monthly grocery shopping. They preferred a pay-per-use model and emphasized the need for effective management and maintenance.
General Comments: There was strong enthusiasm for shared outdoor spaces like gardens or rooftops, with many willing to pay extra for these amenities.
